First Bite Demo Save File Location and Backup Guide
Find the Stupid Never Dies First Bite Demo save location on Windows, back it up safely, and understand what Steam Cloud currently records.
FAQ
Where is the Stupid Never Dies demo save file?
Does the First Bite demo use Steam Cloud?
Can the PC demo save transfer to PS5?
The short answer
For the Windows version of the First Bite demo, start with this folder:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\StupidNeverDies\Saved\SaveGames
Paste that path into the Windows File Explorer address bar and press Enter. %LOCALAPPDATA% expands to the AppData/Local directory for the signed-in Windows user, so you do not need to reveal or type the account name manually.
SteamDB also records a second possible location relative to the installed game:
<Steam Library>\steamapps\common\StupidNeverDiesDemo\StupidNeverDies\Saved\SaveGames
The data may sit inside a folder named with the 64-bit Steam account ID. SteamDB currently lists both .sav and .json files. Do not rename those files or the account folder if the goal is to restore the save later.
How to make a safe backup
Close the game before copying anything. A save copied while the game is writing to it can be incomplete even when File Explorer shows a normal file size.
- Exit First Bite and wait for Steam to finish synchronizing.
- Open the AppData path above.
- Copy the complete
SaveGamesfolder, including any numbered account subfolder. - Store the copy outside the Steam library—for example, in a dated backup folder on another drive.
- Open the backup and confirm that it contains the same
.savand.jsonfiles as the source.
Copying the entire folder is deliberate. The JSON files may contain information that belongs with the main save, and selecting only the largest SAV file creates an unnecessary restoration risk.
What Steam Cloud does—and does not guarantee
SteamDB records cloud-save rules for the demo and links the demo app to the full-game app. That is encouraging for the advertised save transfer, but it does not prove that every local copy has synchronized successfully.
Before uninstalling the demo, check that Steam no longer shows an active synchronization message. Keep the local backup until the full game has launched, found the demo progress and saved successfully on its own.
If the local and cloud copies conflict, Steam may ask which one to keep. Compare their timestamps rather than automatically choosing “cloud” or “local.” The newest timestamp is often the right choice, but only you can tell whether it represents the session you want to preserve.
How full-game transfer is expected to work
GPTRACK50 and SEGA say progress from the First Bite demo can continue in the purchased game. They have not published a detailed troubleshooting procedure or promised cross-platform transfer.
The release and editions guide keeps the launch timing and platform details in one place. If you are still learning what should carry over, the beginner guide separates temporary run upgrades from mall-based progression.
The safest plan is therefore simple:
- buy the full game on the same platform;
- use the same Steam or PlayStation account;
- leave the demo and its save in place for the first full-game launch;
- confirm the imported progress before removing the demo.
On PS5, saves are managed through the console rather than a user-accessible filesystem, so the Windows paths on this page do not apply. Do not assume a Steam save can be copied to PS5.
If the folder is missing
Launch the demo, reach a point where it saves, return to the title screen and exit normally. Then check both recorded locations again. Also make sure File Explorer is showing the correct Windows user profile.
Avoid downloading replacement saves from strangers. Besides skipping your own progress, an unknown archive can contain unrelated or unsafe files. The official transfer is designed around your own demo progress, not a shared completion file.
